The grand exhibition Popes and Marche Saints at Castel Sant'Angelo opens, which the public can discover, included in the entrance ticket to the Castle, from October 3, 2024, until March 2, 2025, in the evocative setting of the Upper Armory Halls. An exhibition rich in materials, documents, and testimonies, many of which come from the Marche region, with completely unpublished or little-known works, which testify to the connection of Rome - the Eternal City of the Popes where past and present appear indissolubly linked - and its historical, artistic, and cultural heritage with the Marche. The exhibition is promoted by the Marche Region, by the ATIM Agency for Tourism and Internationalization of the Marche, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Museums of the Ministry of Culture and the Pantheon and Castel Sant'Angelo Institute - National Museums Directorate of the city of Rome, with the patronage of Jubilee 2025 and the Marche Episcopal Conference. Produced and organized by C.O.R. Creare Organizzare Realizzare by Alessandro Nicosia with the curatorship of Marco Pizzo and Maria Cristina Bettini. The Marche region, between history and culture, has woven a deep bond with the Catholic Church over the centuries. Their past, intimately connected with the Papal State, the temporal domain of the popes, has contributed to shaping the identity and social fabric of the region. The authority and influence of the Church have permeated multiple aspects of Marche society, guiding institutions, inspiring sacred works of art, and shaping the cultural and spiritual practices of the population. The Marche represent a crossroads of history and faith, where religious heritage harmoniously merges with the fabric of daily life, characterizing the cultural roots of the region and strengthening its central role in the ecclesiastical history of Italy. The goal is to bring to light the intertwining of art, culture, and spirituality, the deep and enduring connection with the Marche region, involving and capturing the curiosity of tourists, enthusiasts, and devotees towards the discovery of these places. The figures of the Marche saints have managed to perfectly characterize the demands of their time, becoming points of religious and artistic reference such as, for example, Saint Nicholas of Tolentino.
