The exhibition tells seventy years of Nordic female design through a selection of table objects and analyzes the role that designers, artisans, architects, artists, entrepreneurs, from Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, have had in the transformation of 20th-century society.

Its realization took place in collaboration with the Embassies of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in Rome, and with the support of the Council of Ministers’ Culture and Art Programme and the Nordisk Kulturfond. Conceived and curated by Fabia Masciello, the exhibition brings together one hundred and thirty pieces on loan from museums, archives, private collections, and iconic companies of Northern Europe, highlighting how table design has been much more than an aesthetic or functional issue: a field of experimentation for new social models, emancipation, and redefinition of domestic and family roles.

A silent but profound revolution carried out by these women who, in creating beautiful, functional, and accessible objects for everyone, have shown how a simple daily gesture can be an act of freedom and rebellion. Their design approach is humanistic, combining creativity, aesthetics, and functionality with empathy towards the user and attention to their real needs, rituals, and inclusivity.

Aino Aalto, Estrid Ericson, Nora Gulbrandsen, Marianne Westman, Herta Bengtson, Ulla Procopè, Grethe Meyer, and many other designers, often overshadowed by colleagues, partners, and husbands they worked with, guide us on this fascinating journey where objects reflect cultural battles and social changes that occurred between the early 20th century and the late 1970s.
