The Étincelles / Scintille exhibition brings together the creations of sixteen artists, authors and researchers as part of the annual residence of creation, experimentation and research at Villa Medici.

This appointment represents a meeting point between different practices, from plastic arts to musical composition, passing through literature, architecture, theater, history and theory of art .

The exhibition is presented as the return of 16 projects that testify to a unique moment in the path of the fellows: the residence as an experimental laboratory. What can arise from the relationship and the meeting of different individuals and practices? From the studio to the exhibition space, how do you give shape to an idea, to a research? These questions accompany a path of multifaceted proposals, marked by an installation that offers an independent space to each project, while preserving its unity.

The title, Étincelles / Scintille , suggests the idea of artistic creation, but also alludes to conflict (“making sparks”) or, on the contrary, to understanding (“the spark is struck”). It is a strongly visual word, linked to light and fire, capable of expressing the vitality of the fellows' projects and evoking the inevitable temporariness of a year of residence that is about to end, together with the desire of the fellows to return the research conducted during his stay in Rome. Étincelles / Scintille presents itself as a path made of correspondences - some evident, others more subtle - between projects that address recurring issues: the tendency to compulsive accumulation, the repetition of gestures and signs, reflection on political issues, the representation of the body , the relationship between natural and artificial landscape. These are some of the constants that emerge in the research of the fellows, who present themselves in the spaces of Villa Medici according to a rhythm that aims to underline possible dialogues and affinities between the various interventions.
