The Nicola Del Roscio Foundation presents from Wednesday, September 17th to Friday, December 5th, 2025 the exhibition "Nude Bodies", the largest exhibition dedicated to nude photography by the Italo-Brazilian photographer Elio Luxardo (Sorocaba, August 1, 1908 - Milan, November 27, 1969) ever realized since his passing.

Adopted Roman, but born in Brazil in 1908 to Italian parents who had emigrated to the South American country, Luxardo is perhaps the greatest representative of that generation of photographers who found themselves immersed in Italy in the 1930s. One of the most controversial periods in Italy's unitary history, where political and personal freedom demands encountered insurmountable barriers, while artistic inspiration could often afford to soar independently to cross spaces and ideologies.

The case of Elio Luxardo assumes a peculiarity that sets him apart distinctly from his Italian photographer colleagues of that era. An excellent craftsman of the darkroom, arriving in Rome in 1932 and growing professionally during the period when the Cinecittà film studios were developing, he was able to cultivate his talent by portraying the actors and actresses of that era, remembered as the "Cinema of white telephones" (1936 - 1943).

But it was his desire to withdraw into a sort of intimate bubble in his studio that allowed him to develop the highest level of his inventive genius, circumscribing his work in a fascinating and intense mise en scène, from which he was able to derive a brilliant core of images dedicated exclusively to nude photography. The exhibition gathers this intimate production of original photographs from the very early thirties, not intended for any kind of commerce, made of an unprecedented and engaging relationship between light and shadow.
