Among the most prominent figures on the international art scene, Cao Fei (born in Guangzhou and based in Beijing) has participated in over one hundred biennials and exhibitions and his works are exhibited in the most prestigious international art institutions. His video works, between reality and fiction, real and virtual, investigate the dilemmas of contemporaneity, explore the transformations of China also drawing on his personal life and, at the same time, address universal questions.
The project is carried out in collaboration with the Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art in Prato. The two latest video works by the artist are presented in Rome and Prato, together with other works that tell of his research. The science fiction film Nova, made in 2019 for a solo show at the Center Pompidou in Paris, will be screened at MAXXI, together with his first virtual reality work under construction, The Eternal Wave.
