As every year in anticipation of summer, the French Academy in Rome gathers in a collective exhibition the projects of the sixteen fellows at the end of their residency year at Villa Medici. On this occasion, the works leave the intimacy of the studios and move to the exhibition halls, where they will be visible to the public. Presented from June 8 to September 8, 2024, curated by the Roman collective IUNO, the exhibition entitled A più voci suggests a possible common score composed of artistic singularities. Whether they are artists, authors, architects, researchers, or art theorists, the fellows are linked by the collective experience at Villa Medici, which gives rise to unexpected synergies and collaborations. The exhibition is characterized by the diversity of artistic practices represented, from literature to sound creation, sculpture, heritage restoration, architecture, photography, and video. From the wide range of projects, some recurring themes emerge: the plant world, the body and its transformations, forms of resistance, the dialectic between exterior and interior, not forgetting the figure of Rome, both real and fantasized city. During their year in the capital, the fellows are encouraged to live the residency as an experimentation laboratory, offering the opportunity to conduct long-term research, explore new paths, and be surprised and involved by the results of encounters with other artistic practices and geographies. The exhibition is an extension of this experience, as well as an opportunity to question the way in which projects that do not fit into conventional exhibition categories are presented. How does an ongoing research materialize? How can the plastic and performative arts be combined? The exhibition is accompanied by a performance section: on Saturday, June 8, Villa Medici organizes the Nuit des Cabanes, an evening of performances, concerts, readings, and screenings conceived by the artists and researchers in residence at Villa Medici, with the participation of numerous guests from the international cultural scene. Free entry from 5:00 pm to 12:30 am, reservation required. As part of the exhibition, in collaboration with NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, a multilingual mediation program is organized by students of the Specialist Biennium in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies and the MA Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies of the Rome Campus.
