The National Galleries of Ancient Art presented from October 24, 2019 to February 2, 2020, at the Galleria Corsini, the exhibition "The enigma of the real. Portraits and still life from the Poletti Collection and the Barberini Corsini National Galleries", curated by Paola Nicita.
The exhibition presents around thirty works never exhibited in Rome from the collection of Geo Poletti (Milan 9 April 1926 - Lenno 13 September 2012), an art historian, connoisseur, painter and collector, compared with some paintings in the museum and a work from the National Museum in Warsaw.
Flaminia Gennari Santori underlines: "as for the Mapplethorpe exhibition, also on this occasion we continue to the Corsini Gallery with the exploration of collecting, both as a practice and as a cultural category".
Seventeenth-century still life will mostly be exhibited, from those of the Roman area of Caravaggio, to the Emilian “kitchens”, from the more sober and intimate Lombard nature, to the dead nature of Bernardo Strozzi and all the Caravaggio-inspired realism of the Bergamo artist Evaristo Baschenis .
Two important still lifes depicting flower and fruit vases attributed by Geo Poletti to Caravaggio himself sent to comparison with a still life with tuberosaconserved at Palazzo Barberini and described not exposed to the public.
