After seventeen years of research among the peaks and wounds of the Alpine landscape, from November 29, 2025 to June 14, 2026, Claudio Orlandi brings to the Museo Alto Garda in Riva del Garda the complete corpus of Ultimate Landscapes, a photographic project that investigates the metamorphosis of glaciers in a time of climate crisis. A visual narrative that crosses the Alps from Presena to Marmolada, transforming the signs of human intervention - the geotextile sheets laid to protect the ice - into symbols of an ambivalent gesture, suspended between care and relentlessness, between defense and illusion. With the curation of Matteo Rapanà and Alessia Locatelli, on the occasion of the International Year of Glacier Preservation, the Museo Alto Garda dedicates to the Roman artist the exhibition Claudio Orlandi. Ultimate Landscapes. The illusion of ice, welcoming in the museum's Pinacoteca and for the first time in a public institution the entire production of the project, articulated in thirteen photographic series that tell a journey that lasted almost two decades. Since 2008, Orlandi has been exploring the glaciers of the Alps, building a language that merges documentation and aesthetic vision. His images do not simply record the retreat of the ice, but reveal its complexity through details that become narrative material: folds, tears, stitches of the artificial sheets blend with the natural texture of the ice, generating forms that are almost abstract, but imbued with meaning. In these extreme landscapes, what emerges is the fragility of the relationship between man and nature, the tension between conservation and control, between the desire to save and the - perhaps unconscious - desire to perpetuate a no longer sustainable model.
