The MAON - Museum of Art of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Century is located in the historic center of Rende, in the province of Cosenza. The Museum was inaugurated in 2004 on the initiative of the “A. Capizzano ”of Rende and is based in Palazzo Vitari. The MAON is the only museum with a permanent museum collection of the Calabrian artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The first nucleus of the collection is due to the donation of the entire private collection of Achille Capizzano, founder of the Museum. In the collection of nineteenth-century artists we mention: Giuseppe Benassai, Giuseppe Cosenza, Giuseppe Renda, Francesco Jerace, Gaele Covelli and many others. Instead, from the twentieth century are: Umberto Boccioni, Mimmo Rotella, Alfredo Pirri, Angelo Savelli and many others. In 2004 the Museum was enriched with an important donation of contemporary art by Luigi Ladaga. Its collection includes works of art by famous artists such as: Alighiero Boetti, Mario Schifano, Umberto Mastroianni, Nicola De Maria, Mario Ceroli and Lucio Del Pezzo. A small group of works are made up of graphics that document the great masters of the twentieth century such as Picasso, Braque, Duchamp, Dalì, Ernst, Balla, Burri and Kounellis. The Museum offers a very rich exhibition activity thanks to international relations with museums and collectors.
