From 24 April to 1 March 2026
From April 24, 2025 to March 1, 2026, the Palazzo dei Musei in Reggio Emilia presents Luigi Ghirri. Photography Lessons // Project, exercises and variations. Luca Capuano and Stefano Graziani, exhibition curated by Ilaria Campioli, inspired by the lessons that Luigi Ghirri gave from 1989 to 1990 at the University of the Project in Reggio Emilia. Focused on the project dimension and the overall redefinition of the role of those working in the field of images, the course offers Ghirri the opportunity to address perennially central themes.
The exhibition is therefore an opportunity not only to present different works (54 shots) on which Luigi Ghirri was working during his teaching years, but also to reflect on the connections between teaching and artistic practice, on the processes of knowledge mediated by images, and in particular, on creative processes.
In the lessons, which for Ghirri resemble more the drafting of a geographical map than a linear path, a sort of "map in which everyone can find their own way," the interest in drawing attention to the environment in its complexity is evident, a kind of action of caring for the world starting from its representation. The teaching is characterized by moments dedicated to re-reading one's own work and the history of images, and others marked by exercises on different topics.
