The show

At the Palazzo dei Musei from 29 October to 29 January the exhibition “Effetto Venturi. Modernity and tradition of an 18th century intellectual: Giovanni Battista Venturi (1746-1822)“

Inauguration Saturday 29 October at 11.00

On the occasion of the bicentenary of the death of the Reggio scientist Giovanni Battista Venturi (1746-1822) initiatives, exhibitions and events will be held aimed at remembering and updating his figure and important scientific contribution. Not everyone knows that the physical principle that allows the flight of jet planes, the regulation of irrigation canals in the countryside, the study of diseases of the circulatory system, the adherence of Formula 1 cars on the track and much more, derives from an equation elaborated at the end of the eighteenth century by the Reggio scientist Giovanni Battista Venturi, who will give the name to the "venturimeter". Venturi himself is considered the first modern scholar of the "scientific" and technical work of Leonardo da Vinci, whose original manuscripts he was able to read and transcribe, which Napoleon had brought to Paris from Milan at the end of the eighteenth century.

The initiatives are promoted by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, the Panizzi Library, the Civic Museums of Reggio Emilia, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, the Department of Engineering Sciences and Methods, the Group of Friends of Historic Vehicles, the Reggio Emilia State Archive, the Municipality of Scandiano, Study Center “L. Spallanzani”, Municipality of Bibbiano, Municipal Library “Milena Fiocchi” of Bibbiano, Deputation of homeland history for the ancient provinces of Modena, L'Ottagono contemporary art gallery, Dante Alighieri Society - Committee of Reggio Emilia-Guastalla, Club for Unesco of Reggio Emilia.
