The MAB (acronym of Museo Archivio Biblioteca) of the Archdiocese of Reggio Calabria-Bova brings together three diocesan cultural institutes: the “Mons. Aurelio Sorrentino”, the Historical Archive and the “Domenico Farias” Library.
It is presented to citizens with an integrated project entitled Art and history of the ancient brotherhoods of Reggio Calabria , made possible with the 8xmille contribution to the Catholic Church: an exhibition , born from the collaboration of the three institutes, was inaugurated on Wednesday 9 November in the Diocesan Museum .
It corresponds to a 3D virtual path on the Artsteps platform, usable from PCs and mobile devices, which illustrates the results of a precise documentary and historical-artistic investigation.
The narrative itinerary, which translates into an exhibition itinerary, has as its object six distinct confraternities from Reggio (of the SS. Sacramento, of the Bianchi, of Gesù e Maria, of the Saints Crispino and Crispiniano, of Sant'Eligio and of the Immacolata at the church della SS.ma Annunziata), exemplary for antiquity and devotion, to which is connected the memory of ancient ecclesiastical buildings object, over the centuries, of ups and downs of destruction and reconstruction, and of their partially dispersed cultural heritage.
The virtual environment, divided into various sections, each dedicated to a confraternity, allows you to range from the history of the individual associations and of the churches that welcomed them to the documents and works of art, in particular sacred silverware and liturgical fabrics, which belonged to them . The technology used offers the opportunity to move freely within the exhibition itinerary and interact with the documents and works of art, activating their captions and/or audio descriptions with a simple click.
The access link to the virtual itinerary on Artsteps will be visible on the Home page of the Diocesan Museum, Archive and Library websites.
The results of an articulated research in which those who work in the three cultural institutes have collaborated will be published in the Paths and insights section of BeWEB, the cultural heritage portal of the Catholic Church.
The Exhibition of art and history of the ancient brotherhoods of Reggio Calabria will remain open until 14 January 2023 on the following days and times: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9am-1pm (afternoon opening Friday 3pm-7pm).
