From 8 May to 2 January 2022
Three years after his untimely death, from 8 May to 3 October 2021 the Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art in Prato dedicates the retrospective Poems I Will Never Release to Chiara Fumai, curated by Milovan Farronato and Francesco Urbano Ragazzi in collaboration with Cristiana Perrella.
The exhibition is part of a large project that brings together several European institutions with the aim of revisiting the artist's work, preserving his legacy and transmitting it to a wide audience. Presented at the end of 2020 at the Center d'Art Contemporain Genève, the exhibition after the stop at the Centro Pecci, in the next two years will be exhibited at La Loge in Brussels and at the Casa Encendida in Madrid, deepening the investigation into a creative personality who has worked in a marked way on the languages of performance and feminist aesthetics of the 21st century.
Poems I Will Never Release collects a very complete corpus of works, which translate Chiara Fumai's performances into material form, while respecting the artist's programmatic intent not to document them.
Rebelling against a sort of latent prejudice linked to her being a woman artist, Chiara Fumai has developed a vocabulary of threat, revolt, violence but also boredom, capable of triggering uncomfortable situations, to promote her ideals of anarchist feminism.
