Canova | George Washington, the first exhibition dedicated to the only work performed by Canova for America, after the great success at the Frick Collection, will be held at the Gypsotheca and Antonio Canova Museum in Possagno.
Canova | George Washington retraces the history of the lost masterpiece, probably the least known public monument of those executed by Canova. Curated by Xavier F. Salomon, chief curator of the Frick Collection, in collaboration with Mario Guderzo, director of the Gypsotheca and Antonio Canova Museum, the Venice International Foundation and Friends of Venice Italy, the double exhibition project brings together for the first time the preparatory model life-size plaster (never before issued from Italy), four preparatory sketches and related drawings and engravings. The oil portrait of Canova painted in 1816 by Thomas Lawrence will also be exhibited, also on loan from the Gypsotheca and Antonio Canova Museum of Possagno together with the model and sketches.
