Located at Rua de António Carneiro 363, in the Bonfim district of Porto, the Ateliê António Carneiro was built in the 1920s as the residence-studio of the renowned painter António Carneiro (1872-1930) and his son Carlos Carneiro, also an artist, while the composer Cláudio Carneyro also lived there.
The collection includes about 300 original works: the triptych A Vida, the final study for La Vita, the large painting Camões reading the Lusíadas to the friars of São Domingos, self-portraits, family portraits, seascapes, church interiors, and panoramic views of Porto.
Recently reopened as the new station of the Museu do Porto, the atelier was restored by the architect Camilo Rebelo. The project aims to recover the original structure with two studio-rooms illuminated by northern natural light and a central exhibition gallery, also integrating the garden, terrace, and private patio, reopened to the city as new spaces for urban enjoyment.
