closed MAURO BOLOGNINI A NOUVEAU REGARD

The show

On the occasion of the centenary of his birth, from 10 November 2022 to 26 February 2023 Pistoia Musei presents MAURO BOLOGNINI to the public | A NOUVEAU REGARD. Cinema, theater and the arts , an exhibition curated by Andrea Baldinotti, Vincenzo Farinella, Monica Preti and Luca Scarlini which will be organized in the offices of Palazzo Buontalenti and the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi, in the historic heart of the city of Pistoia.

About 200 posters, sketches, costumes, paintings, photographs and props for an exhibition that has the dual aim of reconsidering Bolognini's work in an overall way and expanding the research on his work and figurative expression to the European dimension. , the result of a sensitivity refined in youth in the shadow of French cinema. Hence also the title of the exhibition, which ideally emphasizes the contribution that the culture of the other side of the Alps has offered to the work of the Pistoian director.

The exhibition is organized in two distinct locations. At Palazzo Buontalenti , where Bolognini's cinematographic story unfolds, the itinerary is divided into six chronological sections: From Pistoia to Rome (with interlude in France); Bolognini and Pasolini; Between successes and failures: the sixties; Between political and literary commitment: the early seventies; Novels, grotesque mirrors and comedy splinters: the second half of the seventies; The last years. Alongside these, a focus dedicated to an anthology of nineteenth-century paintings used by the director as ideas, and an in-depth study of his personality and tastes with a selection of objects and works that surrounded him in his homes. In a 'cinematic' room specially set up for the exhibition, instead, an original video montage directed by Rocco Gurrieri proposes a reconstruction of the close relations between Bolognini's films and the pictorial and photographic references that inspired the atmosphere and staging , in particular in La Viaccia and in Metello.
