From February 8th to June 2nd, 2025 (extended until September 7th, 2025), the Museum of San Salvatore hosts Fragments of stories. Archaeology from the Ancient Bishops' Palace, curated by Monica Preti and Cristina Taddei.
The exhibition displays fragments of glass and ceramics from the Ancient Bishops' Palace found during excavations carried out in the 1970s. These include both everyday objects and exceptional artifacts such as the rare glass of Edvige of Islamic production, one of the four known specimens in Italy to date. These archaeological finds refer to contexts of use and production, to stories and characters, suggesting a narrative that also includes the city with its transformations and connections. Despite their fragmentary nature, the exhibited objects become suggestions of journeys and exchanges along the routes of the Mediterranean through the centuries.
At the Museum of San Salvatore, visitors can find digital content that, using augmented reality and 3D modeling, reconstruct the forms of the artifacts and materialize their contexts of origin and use, offering elements of comparison, proposing simulations, and further lines of study. The digital experience can be enjoyed thanks to tablets and an interactive table provided by the museum.
The exhibition is also a step towards the reopening of the Archaeological Area of the Museum of the Ancient Bishops' Palace: an opportunity to explore new research perspectives and offer visitors a preview of the tools that will characterize the future exhibition and that constitute a preliminary experimentation of the project Pistoia Moving Stories.
