From 22 September to 17 November 2024
Drawing should be understood as a powerful sign of communication and transmission of knowledge and ideas. Pesaro Italian Capital of Culture 2024 is the occasion to stage about 40 graphic works preserved in the Oliveriana Library of Pesaro, one of the nerve centers of the culture of this city, guardian of an invaluable historical heritage. The exhibition 'CAPITAL' OF DRAWING. Raphael, Barocci, Cantarini, Lazzarini from the Oliveriana Library for Pesaro 2024 will be set up from September 22 to November 17, 2024 in the rooms hosting the permanent collection of the Civic Museums of Pesaro. The exhibition is curated by Anna Cerboni Baiardi with Anna Maria Ambrosini Massari.
The opening will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.
The exhibited drawings belong to the Viti Antaldi collection and trace an ideal path with some of the main artists who worked in this territory between the 16th and 18th centuries: the Urbino artist Federico Barocci (1533-1612), active for Duke Francesco Maria II della Rovere with his talented followers; the Pesaro artists Simone Cantarini (1612-1648), restless and innovative genius, and Giovanni Andrea Lazzarini (1710-1801), a protagonist of the 18th century in his hometown and in the Marche region. All of them reflected, in different times and ways, on the work of the great Raphael (1483-1520), born in Urbino and eventually called to Rome by Pope Julius II, who created works considered so perfect that they became inexhaustible models for future generations.
Central to the exhibition is therefore the figure of Raphael, whose contribution is enriched through digital tools and methods. 'Capital' of drawing thus becomes for the visitor also a sensitive, emotional, and cognitive experience.
The exhibition is promoted by the Municipality of Pesaro and the Pescheria Foundation - Visual Arts Center as part of the events of Pesaro Italian Capital of Culture 2024, with the contribution of the Marche Region and in collaboration with the Olivieri Institution - Library and Oliveriani Museums and Pesaro Museums, in partnership with the Raffaello Academy of Urbino. The organization is by Maggioli Cultura e Turismo.
