From 9 October to 6 January 2022
The Department of Culture of the Municipality of Pavia presents, from 9 October 2021 to 6 January 2022, in the courtyard of the Visconteo Castle, the exhibition “Fons Vitae”, by Antonio Ievolella (Benevento, 1952), an internationally renowned sculptor. The setting is inspired by water: the 30 terracotta skins on iron structures, suspended in the courtyard of the Castle, are real vases, laps that make up the plastic form chosen by the Artist as a recurring motif of the installations . The wineskin becomes a symbolic device that alludes to man and his uniqueness and, in particular, to the monk in his silent and voluntary isolation, even within a collective dimension. This project brings not only aesthetic quality into a unique place like the Visconteo Castle, but it reaffirms the link between memory and water as nourishment for life and culture. Pavia, city of water and of many illustrious memories, could not be missing in a path where the marvelous meets the reality of history. Antonio Ievolella's project fits perfectly into the environmental context of the Visconteo Castle, but also into the cultural fabric of a city that continues to draw from its past the strength and intelligence to read and build its future.
