The exhibition at the end of the residence of the artist Daria Koltsova , is organized inside and outside the eighteenth-century Palazzo Sant'Eli a, a baroque building that overlooks Via Maqueda. The external windows along the main entrance of the building host the site specific installation Theory of Protection.
What at first glance appears to be a geometric pattern decorating the French windows, is actually inspired by the expedient used by the Ukrainian population to protect the windows of the houses from the shock waves caused by the explosions. The diagonally arranged strips of adhesive tape reduce vibrations, preventing the glass from exploding. In Palermo, on the external façade of Palazzo Sant'Elia, the work constitutes a symbolic protective belt with a strong political value, underlining the fragility of the artistic heritage in times of war and at the same time witnessing solidarity with the resistance of the Ukrainian people.
In the main venue of the exhibition, the Cavallerizza del Palazzo, a monumental basilica-type stable that housed horses, a highly suggestive environmental and sound installation is set up. Wall drawings made by the artist with charcoal, inspired by the graffiti of the Inquisition Prison in Palazzo Steri, and engravings that scratch the surface of the walls transfigure the space of the Cavallerizza into a nocturnal and underground environment, where it is easy to lose the space references -temporal.
