closed Caravaggio Experience. The escape and the investigation

The show

It is an extraordinary , enveloping and emotional journey, which winds its way through immersive video installations, animated visits in period costumes, baroque sounds, fragments of paintings that materialize into small sets: here is “ Caravaggio Experience. The escape and the investigation " , which opens on Sunday 22 December at 6 pm at the Sant'Elia Foundation, in via Maqueda 81, a project created by the Sant'Elia Foundation in collaboration with the Casa del Musical Production, Medialart Srls, Tourism Sport Department and Show of the Sicilian Region, Metropolitan City of Palermo.

The Mayor of Palermo, Leoluca Orlando says: <Palermo once again makes culture its strong point, demonstrating a willingness to give continuity to a process that began some time ago, and which continues step by step. The “Caravaggio Experience” is an example too, which confirms attention to the most innovative artistic languages>.

The Superintendent of Palazzo Sant'Elia, Antonio Ticali, underlines the importance of collaborations with private individuals: <This project, so complex in terms of techniques and methods, was also carried out thanks to the many and different collaborations that wanted to support the Foundation, and it is the proof of how the team game between institutions and individuals is the winning one. Thus Medialart, with its extraordinary technological innovation project dedicated to the great painter, was able to arrive in the city, for a visual narration that will totally involve the viewer and becomes the scenography of the theatrical work specially written by the House of the Musical. >.

During the inauguration, which will be open to the public, the actors of the Casa del Musical under the direction of Marco Savatteri, will perform three replicas of the show specially created for "Caravaggio la Fuga e L'indagine", dedicated to the history and life of the painter, between escapes, duels, loves.

The performances - in period costume - will take place at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm.

During the opening of the exhibition, the other dates and times in which to attend the performance are: December 27, at 17-18-19-20; on December 29, at 17-18-19-20; on December 30th, at 5.18.19.20, on December 31st at 12-13-14.

“Caravaggio Experience” is conceived as a subjective and emotional experience for the visitor, a show of projections and music lasting approximately 45 minutes, which unfolds simultaneously along the entire route, without interruptions, and in a continuous cycle.

Immersive art is an art form that uses digital technologies, video projections, music and sounds to involve and immerse the viewer in a fully emotional experience.

One of the hallmarks of Caravaggio's art, on the other hand, is his constant attempt to break down the barrier between painted space and real space, to obtain the maximum involvement of the spectator.

A special involvement that is made possible by the use of a completely innovative projection technique: "Caravaggio Exprience" through the use of Canon video projectors and the Infinity Dimension-ooD system developed by Medialart in The Fake Factory laboratories, represents from the point technologically a milestone in the realization of immersive video installations.

The use of the projectors with a system of liquid crystal panels on silicon allows in fact to process crisp and crystal clear images, preserving the visibility of the smallest details. The images are homogeneous, characterized by perfect color gradations, completely eliminating the effects of pixels or grids, returning perfect and vibrant color gradations and the visual rendering of a uniform brushstroke.

The video installation in which the viewer will find himself immersed, has the aim of breaking down the barrier between the painting and the public, to let the viewer literally enter the space created by the artist, also through the aid of graphic and cinematographic animation techniques. that invite the audience to interact emotionally with pure vision.

The video installation is divided into a series of “rooms”, as if they were at the same time architectural spaces and musical themes, each of which is linked to a Caravaggesque subject.

Six rooms in a row, on the noble floor of the Sant'Elia palace: it starts with an educational and introductory room to the path, which prepares the viewer for vision and involvement, which is enriched with scenographic elements inspired by the works of Caravaggio, where the the public will be able to "enter the scene" and, if they wish, will be able to photograph themselves like the characters in the works. We then move on to immersive video installations: the Flower Room, the rooms with the works, and the itinerary ends with a special “Mirror room”, where immersive perception will be of great involvement between mirrors and high definition projections.

So in the various rooms, immersed in the images, you will also be enveloped by ambient sounds, distant echoes, noises and beats, crossed by bundles of music, themes and timbres that interrupt the silences and become part of the story.

There will be references to the presence of Caravaggio in Palermo, and among the works in projection (about forty) could not miss the Nativity created for the Oratory of San Lorenzo, stolen in 1969 and never found. (images courtesy of the Diocese of Palermo)

For this occasion, an agreement has also been made with the Amici dei Musei association, which will allow reduced admission to those who visit the Caravaggio Experience exhibition and the Oratory of San Lorenzo.

A room along the way will be dedicated to the work, with a small narrative focus, and the theft will be one of the guiding motifs of the performance created for this occasion, which will see twenty actors from the Casa del Musical move around the rooms and interact with the spectators, leading them to a special animated discovery of the adventurous life of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio.
