The Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias is a museum of fine arts founded in 1969, when the Provincial Council of Asturias and the Municipality of Oviedo established the public foundation "Centro Provincial de Bellas Artes". later, on May 19, 1980. At the beginning the museum consisted of only seven rooms, in which 78 works were exhibited. As for the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, this was initially established thanks to the funds of the ancient Council provincial and the ancient painting museum of the provincial academy of fine arts of San Salvador de Oviedo. Over the years it has grown through various acquisitions, bequests, deposits and donations, among which the donation in payment of the Pedro Collection stands out. Masaveu Peterson. To date, the museum currently has one of the best public art collections in Spain for a total of fifteen thousand pieces covering a period from the 14th to the 21st century and which include internationally renowned artists such as, for example: El Greco, Zurbarán, Ribera, Murillo, Carreño de Miranda, Goya, Miguel Jacinto and Luis Meléndez, Sorolla, Piñole, Valle, Aurelio Suárez, Luis Fernández, Picasso, Dalí, Miró, Tàpies and Barceló.
