closed The antiquarian's family

The show

In this room the Goldonian family of the antiquarian is naturally formed by the protagonist, the lawyer. Efisio Pischedda, but also by all his predecessors, from Oristano and not, who lived three blessed quaterques in the contemplation of their gold, gems, iridescent glasses. To crown this family are the archaeologists who have reconstructed the ancient world with their excavations and their fiery passions, from Schliemann to Evans, from Champollion to Rawlinson, to Austen Layard, Paul Émile Botta to Wolley, and the Italians in the their homeland and in their missions abroad (from Pigorini, to Orsi, to Halbherr and Pernier, to Gàbrici, Ducati, Minto etc.).

Archaeologists are told through manuscripts and original editions of their books and with panels that recreate their physiognomies and their excavations. Sardinian archaeologists and historians serve as a direct introduction to Efisio Pischedda: by Alberto Lamarmora, Vittorio Angius, Giovanni Spano and Gaetano Cara. The latter two, linked by a strong friendship, clashed for twenty years after the conquest by the Spano of the Rectorate of the University of Cagliari (on which the museum run by Cara depended). Cara is responsible for the sale of huge Tharri collections and for the acquisition of false Sardinian-Phoenician idols for his museum.
