Massena Museum

The Musée Massena is a museum in Nice dedicated to the history and art of the city from the 18th century up to the Belle Époque period. It is based in the splendid Villa Masséna, an architectural jewel of the famous Promenade des Anglais, built between 1898 and 1901 by the architect Hans-Georg Tersling, one of the best architects of the French Riviera during the Belle Époque. The neoclassical style of the building has a strong Italianizing imprint. The museum's collection is vast and consists of works of graphic art, furniture and various objects. In addition, the collection preserves Napoleon's death mask, made by Doctor Arnolt, Joséphine's mother-of-pearl diadem, as well as pearls and precious stones offered by Murat to the Empress. In addition, it is possible to admire landscape works from the 19th century. Particularly noteworthy is the ground floor of the building, almost a work of art in its own right, thanks to its sumptuous decorations, luxurious furniture and art objects dating back to the First Empire that decorate the halls.
