The Civic Museums of Monza were established in 1935 to exhibit to the public - at that time in some rooms of the Royal Villa - a selection of the civic heritage of works of art that the Municipality, through purchases and important bequests, has gradually accumulated since the end of the 19th century. The Civic Museums reopened to the public in June 2014 inside the Casa degli Umiliati - a historic building linked in the Medieval period to the religious order of the Umiliati - restored and used as a museum. In the cloister and in the museum rooms, 140 works of art are exhibited that trace through significant testimonies - from archaeological pieces to bronze sculptures, from large paintings to contemporary art installations - the historical and artistic events of the city of Monza against the backdrop of the most important Italian and European artistic phenomena.
