The exhibition that tells the creative universe of Mario Lattes starting from the artist's personal collection will open on Saturday, March 29 in Monforte d'Alba (CN): with the exhibition Echoes of the '900, until May 11, 2025, the spaces of the Bottari Lattes Foundation offer the public a selection of over forty works. Curated by Armando Audoli, the exhibition enhances the Foundation's corpus, composed of Lattes' original collection and works acquired by the president Caterina Bottari Lattes, who has ideally continued her husband's activity, enriching it with new works according to her own personal taste and sensitivity. The protagonist of the exhibition is the painting by Pinot Gallizio from 1963, a wide-ranging work that dialogues with some significant pictorial passages of leading exponents of the informal Turin season, such as Piero Ruggeri, Sergio Saroni, and Giacomo Soffiantino, not forgetting "Nudo", a solid canvas by Ennio Morlotti, and the more ethereal one by Albino Galvano, with his literary "Calligramma", full of poetic-visual undertones. Artists with international charisma are undoubtedly the Parisians George Braque, Maurice Utrillo, and Amedeo Modigliani, the latter author of a delicate drawing of a pipe smoker, alongside whom the lunar Osvaldo Licini certainly does not pale, "wandering, erotic, heretical" of Italian art of the last century. A section of the exhibition is dedicated to authors such as the Italians Luigi Bartolini and Mario Calandri, the Frenchman Jean-Pierre Velly, and the Czech Jiří Anderle, among the best engravers of their time: a presence that tells of a precise collecting will and not just a random proceeding. The "Sphinx in Pharaoh" by Ernst Fuchs, Viennese artist exhibited several times in Turin in the seventies, recalls Lattes' never-dying passion for Central European culture and artists, between Symbolism and Surrealism. Other illustrious authors on display include Italo Cremona, Gianfranco Ferroni, Lucio Fontana, Virgilio Guidi, Fausto Melotti, Mario Sironi, Francesco Tabusso, Carlo Terzolo, and Renzo Vespignani. On the occasion of this exhibition, the collaboration between the Bottari Lattes Foundation and the Alba Trade Fair Authority is renewed, which has included the exhibition in the calendar of cultural events promoted by Vinum Alba 2025, the international fair of Piedmont wines.
