The BPER Banca Gallery presents the Mario Sironi exhibition project in the spaces of the Modena art gallery . Solemnity and torment . The exhibition is part of the calendar of philosophy festival events whose theme, for the 2023 edition, is "word" (from 15 to 17 September in Modena, Carpi and Sassuolo) and will be open to the public from Friday 15 September 2023 until Sunday 4 February 2024 .

 
Curated by Daniela Ferrari , the exhibition offers a corpus of 40 works by Mario Sironi (Sassari, 1885 - Milan, 1961). For the first time outside Sardinia, several works dating between 1926 and 1958 belonging to a rich Sironian collection donated to the Banco di Sardegna, part of the BPER Banca Group, by the artist's partner Mimì Costa are exhibited. Among the works on display, the large painting Allegory of Work stands out , a preparatory study of a now destroyed fresco proposed with great success in 1933 at the V Triennale of Milan. Added to this nucleus are important masterpieces from prestigious private collections, from the Mario Sironi Association and from the Mario Sironi Archive.

 
The theme of the "word" is also a key element of the exhibition that the BPER Banca Gallery dedicates to Sironi. Newspaper pages, posters, envelopes with addresses, writings that cross the images: the word has often been the context and support of the pictorial work of Mario Sironi, one of the greatest Italian artists of the twentieth century.
