The Emilio Carlo Mangini Foundation was founded in 1985 by the Milanese collector Emilio Carlo Mangini. Mangini traveled around Europe buying the works and objects of the past that today make up his collection. The son Giuseppe, after the untimely death of his father, carried on the family tradition and enriched the collections with precious objects. The current site has a very ancient history, it dates back to the first documentation of 1418. It is thought that the house of the Foundation stands on the area that was once adjacent to the ancient Roman Forum, where the Ambrosiana Library is currently located. Excavations and archaeological investigations have brought to light finds from the period between the II - III century BC up to the IV - V century AD. The Foundation immediately moved to recover the archaeological finds, so that they could be used during the visit to the Museum. The Museum therefore offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the past of Roman history, thanks to the ancient ruins and artifacts, and modern collecting. The permanent collection offers trunks, playing cards, fans, weapons, oil lamps, inkwells, shaving basins, keys, games, notary boxes, church objects, archaeological objects, clothes and much more.
