From 10 October to 2 February 2025
From October 10, 2024 to February 2, 2025, an exhibition at Palazzo Reale showcases Ugo Mulas. The photographic operation, one of the most extensive and detailed retrospectives dedicated to one of the most important authors of Milan, born in 1928 and died in 1973. Promoted by Comune di Milano-Cultura and produced by Palazzo Reale and Marsilio Arte in collaboration with the Ugo Mulas Archive, with the support of the Deloitte and Deloitte Italia Foundation, the exhibition offers a comprehensive reinterpretation of the work of the great photographer, to whom the city pays an extraordinary tribute.
Over 250 images, many of which have never been exhibited before, precious vintage shots, documents, books, and films, retrace the entire production of Ugo Mulas: from theater to fashion, from portraits of international artists, protagonists of American Pop art, to intellectuals, architects, and figures from the world of culture and entertainment – such as Dino Buzzati, Giorgio De Chirico, Marcel Duchamp, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Arthur Miller, Eugenio Montale, Louise Nevelson, Gio Ponti, Salvatore Quasimodo, Giorgio Strehler, Andy Warhol and many others – from cities to nudes and jewelry. Along the path, articulated into thematic chapters, emerges the profile of a "total" photographer, who has tackled many different subjects during his brief and intense experience, with the awareness that photography is not mere documentation, but a testimony and critical interpretation of reality.
