From 14 February to 17 March 2024
After the success at the MAXXI in Rome, the Straordinarie exhibition arrives in Milan, at the Fabbrica del Vapore. From 14 February to 17 March the spaces of the Cathedral will host the project promoted by Terre des Hommes and curated by Renata Ferri with photographs by Ilaria Magliocchetti Lombi, which collects 110 portraits and voices of Italian women from many areas of contemporary society. Professionals who, with their journey, demonstrate many different ways, all possible, of asserting themselves and realizing their ambitions beyond prejudice and discrimination.
The exhibition is part of the #indifesa campaign that Terre des Hommes has been carrying out since 2012 to promote the rights of girls in Italy and around the world, through concrete projects in the field, but also awareness initiatives such as Straordinarie, and advocacy campaigns to build a culture of respect and inclusion against all prejudice and gender discrimination. During the days of the exhibition, the spaces of the Cathedral will host a rich schedule of meetings dedicated to schools and citizens, talks with the women portrayed, projections and artistic performances, to delve deeper into the themes proposed by the exhibition.
As Renata Ferri states, “Straordinarie is a challenge to gender stereotypes that transforms the paradigm of the woman-victim into a cultural and political reference model. Protagonists of our present, they accepted the invitation to stage the photographic portrait to make this project a single body of faces and voices, a weaving of memories, confidences and dedications.” Tommaso Sacchi, Councilor for Culture, Municipality of Milan: “When we talk about gender issues, culture can and must play a fundamental role in inspiring change in our society. It is with this awareness that the Municipality of Milan has promoted the "Milan City of Women" program, which will propose appointments, talks and exhibitions related to the theme throughout 2024, and which opens today with the Straordinarie exhibition. A project aimed above all at girls and boys, to show them the infinite ways that women have to express themselves and realize themselves. An invitation to learn about the story of these extraordinary women and grow free and free to make their dreams come true. ”
