From 6 April to 9 June 2023
Accepted the Artsupp Card
From 6 April 2023 , with the exhibition Whisperers by Lito Kattou (Cyprus, 1992), the new exhibition cycle of Project Room kicks off, the " observatory " project of the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation dedicated to the developments of the international art scene, which this he year is entrusted to the curator Chiara Nuzzi (Naples, 1986).
Inspired by the homonymous collection of essays by the writer Anna Maria Ortese and her attempts to "restore to reality the meaning of belonging to another reality, larger and unknowable"1, Corpo Celeste is divided into two solo exhibitions, the first dedicated to Lito Kattou and the next, scheduled for September 2023, to Paul Maheke (France, 1985). In both exhibitions, sculpture is a tool for building other bodies, hybridized with matter, nature and the animal world, to inhabit new worlds. In these possible ultraworlds, Kattou and Maheke explore the potential of sculptural matter by building environments and narratives that undermine the present and question the future. The artists develop two site-specific projects that mix different media to build immersive environmental installations: the exhibition space of the Foundation thus becomes a landscape populated by almost metaphysical images and presences.
Whisperers is the first solo show in an Italian institution by Lito Kattou, whose research is influenced by the natural, social and political context of the Mediterranean area. Inspired by mythologies, tales, local archeology, the artist has included themes such as the reconciliation between life and death and the acceptance of the linearity and circularity of time in her practice, through which she reflects on the coexistence of different realities. His works – bodies, hybrid and abstract creatures, anthropomorphic or animals, within which natural and cosmic elements are incorporated – analyze the process of change of matter over time, the theme of otherness and unknown space-time scenarios.
The Whisperers (those who whisper) series of 2022, like the previous Harvesters (those who collect), focuses on the idea of community in a timeless setting that identifies new strategies for coexistence.
