An industrial manager, he became passionate about photography from an early age, combining it with an intense critical and curating activity . He moved to Venice for work after the war and in the lagoon city in 1948 he founded, with other photographers, the photographic club "La Gondola", creator in post-war Italy of a profound renewal of the Italian photographic language, increasingly attentive to the international context. represented by the German Subjektive Fotografie by Otto Steinert but also by the great authors of American photography such as Weston and Siskind or French, such as Cartier-Bresson, Daniel Masclet, or the Hungarian Brassaï.
Since 1953 he has been in Milan, a city in extraordinary economic and cultural growth. Here he consolidated his critical and experimental attitude becoming one of the most successful authors also at an international level. He works for the Triennali, for the major architecture studios (BBPR, Gio Ponti, Albini, Scarpa), for the Museums of the Castello Sforzesco, for the History of Italian Literature of Garzanti, curated by Cecchi and Sapegno, for the History of Art Italiana published by Einaudi, for the Italian Touring Club.
He will then undertake the important survey campaign of the historic center of Bologna and other locations in Emilia Romagna under the guidance of Andrea Emiliani. Alongside his professional activity, he carries out an intense experimental activity that leads him to reflect on abstraction, in a continuous and passionate investigation of photographic language and its potential . A little known activity, which leads him to compete with photograms, chemigrams and experiments with colored materials , in an intense and cultured dialogue with the most interesting artistic and photographic experiences of his time and which increases its international credibility.
