Open Studio returns to the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation, the cycle of exhibitions set up in the Maestro's studio created with the aim of rediscovering and exploring particular themes and periods of Arnaldo Pomodoro's artistic career, displaying original works, documents and archive materials.

From Sunday 12 March until 28 May 2023 the exhibition The negation of form. Arnaldo Pomodoro between minimalism and counterculture, edited by Federico Giani, puts the spotlight on the five-year period 1966-1970, a season of great liveliness and interest. These are Pomodoro's "American years" - lived between Italy and the United States, with teaching positions at Stanford and Berkeley - during which the artist develops an unprecedented formal experimentation, influenced by phenomena such as minimalism, and participates as a protagonist in counterculture initiatives, which intend to open up new spaces of political and cultural practice.

The exhibition is divided into six sections, each of which investigates a specific aspect of Pomodoro's work or life, and presents around forty works - sculptures, graphics, multiples, drawings, models and prototypes - some of which have been rediscovered and restored for the occasion , others loaned by private collectors and institutions such as the Intesa Sanpaolo Collection and the Magi '900 Museum – Pieve di Cento (BO). The story of the context and the events in which the Maestro is the protagonist is entrusted to a selection of photographs, films and archive materials and to a group of works by American artists - colleagues and students on campus - with whom Pomodoro became friends in those years, such as Harold Paris, Sue Bitney, William T. Wiley, Stephen Laub and Arlo Acton.
