The show

From 2 March to 2 April 2023, Fondazione Stelline organizes and promotes Jericho , a solo exhibition by Luca Moscariello – curated by Alberto Zanchetta – which offers the opportunity to investigate beyond the gaze, creating new points of reflection between what one thinks to see and what you actually see.

Jericho is the culmination of a game of joints and paradoxes that Luca Moscariello has been working on for the past five years. The exhibition brings together a nucleus of works, mostly unpublished, belonging to the Puzzle series which - stripped of any narrative component - intend to probe the pictorial medium. Removing from sight the excess that compromises and weakens curiosity, Moscariello invites the viewer to scrutinize "threshold images" that stage contacts and estrangements, interruptions and isolations.

The surfaces of the paintings are modulated in such a way as to shake up the ataraxy of the quadr[at]o: different construction levels are grafted, in fact, within the perimeter to develop a perceptive game based on the dialectic of the dissimilar. «In pictorial terms», the artist is keen to point out, «that enclosure is the result of a mass of reiterated practices, marked by daily work, like a Benedictine vegetable garden which requires the rule of continuous and meticulous care».

However solid, the works appear shaky, pervaded by a sense of instability, as if all the certainties of the observer were to collapse. Curiosity is the only way to enjoy these paintings: a look that is conquest and allows one to go beyond the pictorial scaffolding, going beyond the limit of the visible and the probable (the tromp-l'oeil effect). The spectator is then invited to peek under the angles that rise up and give rise to the debate, allowing the view to open up to look again.
