With the exhibition The beginning of time. Arnaldo Pomodoro's spatial research , on 6 March 2022 the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation launches a new cycle of Open Studio , temporary installations in the rooms of Arnaldo Pomodoro's Studio which, annually, tell and deepen little-known themes and periods of research of the artist, exhibiting original works, documents and archival materials.

The protagonist of the first Open Studio is The Beginning of Time n. 2 , a large bas-relief in lead, zinc and tin, from Cologne and restored in 2021. In this emblematic work, which already highlights the climate of overcoming the Informal, Pomodoro investigates the spatial development of a surface that is no longer structured from the sign writings that characterize his beginnings, but concrete and consistent, animated by a gestural and absolute sign.

Alongside The Beginning of Time, a group of sculptures, drawings and design studies - some on loan from the CSAC of Parma - and numerous archival materials (photographs, catalogs, magazines, press clippings, correspondence ... ), in an installation that gives an account of the genesis of the work and the period of activity between 1957 and 1964, up to the creation of the Great tribute to technological civilization for the facade of the Popular University of Cologne, a poetic synthesis between the investigations on sign-writing and sign-matter, of which the unpublished design collages are exhibited.

In the Great Tribute - the first proof of the artist's interest and commitment on an architectural and urban level - Pomodoro brings into the sculpture, on the vast surface of concrete and bronze, a piercing of touches, grooves, knots, footprints and footprints: a language illegible, rich in history, almost symbolic and at the same time premonitory of the circuits of the first "electronic brains" .
