From 27 March to 23 April 2022
The exhibition "Incontri a Lula - Adzovios a Luvula" opens on March 26 at the Luciana Matalon Foundation in Milan , a photographic journey made by Nello and Gianmarco Taietti in the community and surroundings of Lula , in the harsh and wild region of Barbagia , which has become the emblem of resistance to depopulation and the risk of extinction of several small towns.
The exhibition curated by Mariangela Dui, which will remain open until April 23, 2022, presents about 100 medium and large-format photographs , in black and white and in color , which restore the character and everyday life of a territory with strong roots which, even if amidst many difficulties, it energetically projects itself towards the future.
The exhibition benefits from the patronage of the Sardinia Region, the Municipality of Lula, the Sardinian Social Cultural Center and the Federation of Sardinian Associations in Italy.
The photographic project presents the works that father and son Taietti have created in a territory they particularly love. Of these places, Nello knows every stone and on this occasion he shared his knowledge with his son Gianmarco, a passionate traveler. Each one created his own images and placed them in dialogue with those of the other, underlining the intensity of the encounter with the territory, so real and so strong.
The need to communicate it to the world is felt, albeit in expressively different ways, by both: if Nello chooses to account for it through portrait and black and white photography , as if to place himself in line with the photographic documentation already existing from the early years of Twentieth century, Gianmarco prefers to adopt a street photographer 's approach , portraying the everyday life of the town in all its spontaneity.
“Nello Taietti enters into a relationship with his subjects with great humanity - explains Angela Madesani in her critical text - trying to grasp the stories and existential paths in their eyes. They are often the result of dialectical relationships, of confrontation. Gianmarco is more inclined to social investigation, his are narrative photographs, in which traditions, habits, peculiarities of the places emerge ”.
