From 31 October to 3 March 2024
From 31 October 2023 to 3 March 2024 Palazzo Reale hosts the exhibition ''Goya. The rebellion of reason'', an important opportunity to discover the entire artistic path of the Spanish master developed over a long historical period, saturated with political, social and ideological changes and events that began a new era of history.
Goya lived through the end of the Old Regime, the era of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution, the Napoleonic wars, the absolutist restoration and exile.
The artist did not limit himself to representing this turbulent era: he himself experienced a revolution in painting in harmony with the historical complexity that he found himself experiencing, a change that he expressed through images.
Through the seven thematic sections of the exhibition it will be possible to discover how the artist was able to transform painting into a revolutionary language, capable of breaking both with the rules and established plastic systems and with the imitation of models. The painting of Goya's mature years is a painting without models, it is the intimate and unrepeatable expression of an artist who creates art, revolutionizing it, at the same time, with a new language.
