Cities evolve. They grow, develop, often increase in size, sometimes depopulate but never stop. Cities that are always the same exist only in the dream catalogs of the mass tourism industry.
Places immutable over time for which fascinating stories can be told, declined according to the taste of those who can buy part of them.
The city becomes a stage for events built on the basis of the expectations of an audience, a product like many others to be sold with certain standards expected by consumers. The past and an alleged "tradition" take the form of the only contemporary reference, for the sole purpose of selling more "authentic" experiences, completely forgetting the role of agents in the present: slogans lose their meaning and symbols are accepted uncritically because they are part of a rhetoric that often has the institutional approval or widespread custom.
What is true in the past? What is authentic today? What are the symbols of the past that still make sense to innovate today? What can we do to avoid the musealization of a city?
The work of Canemorto , MOMO , Studio Antani , Ultravioletto + Dottor Pira is the first exhibition of the TAM Tower Art Museum, the museum-that-now-exists.
If it is impossible to read the Greek and Latin classics without a dictionary of classical allusions, a dictionary is also needed for the Matera tradition, necessary to decode what is true, what is probable and what is false (semi-cit).
