The Musée Provençal de Château-Gombert is an ethnographic museum in Marseille, the second largest ethnographic museum in the Provence region after the Arlaten Museum in Arles. The Musée Provençal was inaugurated in 1928 and is located in the Château-Gombert, an 18th-century castle and former private residence. The extensive collection of the museum includes various elements such as furniture, paintings, porcelain, fabrics, ancient costumes, sacred art, and agricultural tools. This rich collection aims to faithfully depict, also through inventories and archival documents, the domestic life, arts, and popular customs of Provence, from the time of the Sun King to more recent times. The museum's tour is organized into three sections, following a chronological order: 1750 - 1800 - 1850. The museum also has a library open to researchers and scholars, as well as an outdoor theater where numerous cultural events take place. Visits to the museum are possible by appointment only.
