Kunsthalle Mannheim

Kunsthalle Mannheim is one of the most famous museums in Mannheim dedicated to modern and contemporary art in Germany. Founded in 1909, its rich collection includes over 2000 canvases, three hundred sculptures and thirty thousand drawings, watercolors and engravings by 19th and 20th century artists, documenting above all the periods of Romanticism, Realism, Neoclassicism, Impressionism, Expressionism and the New Objectivity. Inside the collection there are works by important artists such as Caspar David Friedrich, Manet, Sisley, Géricault, Delacroix, Rodin, Pissarro, Cézanne, Hans Von Marées, Kikoschka, Munch, Macke, Dalunay, Boccioni, De Chirico, Francis Bacon and several others.

Kunsthalle Mannheim was originally housed in an Art Nouveau-style building designed by Hermann Billing, purpose built to house the collection in 1907 and opened in 1909 as the city's first museum. In 2018 the new and modern headquarters of the museum was inaugurated, conceived as a "moving museum" in the idea of a "city within a city", busy and exciting, innovative and cosmopolitan.
