Manchester's Science and Industry Museum, formerly known as the North Western Museum of Science, opened in 1969.
Together with four other UK museums (The Science Museum in South Kensington, The National Railway Museum in York, Locomotion in County Durham, The National Science and Media Museum in Bradford) it is managed by the Science Museum Group.
The Science and Industry Museum in Manchester focuses on the theme of the development of science, technology and industry with particular attention to the achievements of the city in relation to these issues.
Various exhibits are organized there: from the theme of transport which include cars, airplanes, railway locomotives and rolling stock, energy and then water, electricity, steam and gas engines, Manchester sanitation, textiles, communications and IT .
Peculiarity of the museum is that it was built on the site of the first railway station in the world which was inaugurated in 1830.
