The Museo de Bomberos de Madrid, located in the Puente de Vallecas neighborhood, offers a fascinating overview of the history of the fire brigade in the Spanish capital. Inaugurated in 1982 and recently renovated, the museum is located next to Fire Station No. 8 and is divided into seven thematic areas that trace over 400 years of service.
Inside, visitors can admire a unique collection of historical fire-fighting vehicles, from 19th-century hand pumps to modern equipped trucks, as well as uniforms, helmets, rescue tools, and vintage communication devices. Visitors discover the evolution of intervention techniques, the history of famous fires, and changes in personnel training.
One of the most engaging sections is the interactive one, where visitors can experience emergency simulations and learn about fire prevention. The museum also houses a commemorative space dedicated to firefighters who died in service, with original documents, photographs, and archival materials.
Visits are free but by reservation, often accompanied by expert guides. The museum is ideal for families, students, and enthusiasts of urban history and public safety.
