From 29 July to 27 September 2020
The fluid rippling of the material, the fascinating transition between the suggested organic reality and the synthetic nature of vinyl. We find all this in the works of Paola Romano that compose the personal exhibition " The mirror of the beyond ", curated by Roberto Capitanio and Maurizio Vanni , set up in the Lu.CCA Lounge & Underground from 29 July to 27 September 2020 . The exhibition, created with the patronage of the Municipality of Lucca and with the contribution of Storitalia, presents the visitor with an unprecedented story that materializes through the unconventional use of the canvas: landscapes with an unpredictable morphology, folds, curls, reversals of perspective and allusions to celestial bodies. His seem like oneiric visions that take shape without a predetermined design.
"Paola Romano's 'plastics' - writes co-curator Roberto Capitanio - are modeled by hand like huge sculptures in clay or plasticine whose only 'design' intervention is provided by the material injected into the back of the leather or fabric in so as to stiffen the volume and preserve over time the forms resulting from the artist's wisdom. No preliminary scheme, therefore, if not the sensations that the artist perceives in the very moment of the implementation of the artifact, sensations that will give life to folds, shadows, reflections, climbs and descents transmissible to the life and daily life of everyone. our. The only design exceptions that Romano allows in the preparation of the 'plastics' are given by the preliminary choice of materials that must necessarily be of the highest quality and by deciding the shape of the work to be realized which can be circular or rectangular ".
The canvases, thus violated, go beyond the surface of things to find a connection with what the human eye could never focus on: the reverberation of the invisible . “Just like the mirror - writes the co-curator Maurizio Vanni -, Romano's works represent a real dimensional stargate, a gateway between the world we define as real and the world of the invisible. Faced with one of his works we realize how often even what we consider reality can correspond to the surface of things. Only through a multi-sensory approach can we intuit the essence of matter, the reflection of the beyond. Only by looking for a path that goes beyond aesthetics, but which is structured around those ecstatic moments that allow alchemical connections with elsewhere, can the viewer overcome the barrier that creates emotional blindness ".
In this fluctuation between dynamism, calm and chaos, Paola Romano urges us to reflect on ourselves and reminds us that what we know could be nothing but a faded reality of the existence of things: hence the link between mirroring and the divine .
