The MAC Museum of Contemporary Art in Lissone will host the Lissone Design Award for its eighth edition, which since 2006 has joined the Lissone Painting Award. The Lissone Design Award, like that of Painting, was created with the aim of supporting and promoting the potential of creatives, in this case in the design field. In fact, Lissone retains a leading cultural, economic and commercial role, with particular attention paid to the production of furniture craftsmanship. Since the 1960s and 1970s, the province of Brianza has been the "First Italian Furniture Center" and has seen local companies operate which, over the decades, have created prototypes of important architects and designers: a manufacturing legacy that is also a territorial identity, which has always been centered on "know-how".
Curated by Francesca Guerisoli, Artistic Director of the Museum, and Anty Pansera, historian and critic of design - who took care of the selection of the designers involved - the VIII Lissone Design Prize is configured as an invitation-only competition that stages the houses history of ten design studios and designers who, taken together, well represent that furniture and furnishing accessory that we find in the laboratories and industries that still operate in Brianza.
The project foresees that the ten designers and studios involved represent themselves through two proposals: the first considered significant of their own design path, the second refers to a "piece of furniture that is not there" prototyped for the occasion - or described through drawings, rendering , photographs or videos - which, from a research point of view, respond to the particular topicality we are experiencing and to the profound transformations of domestic habitats in recent years. The designers - different in terms of generation, training, methodological and implementation methods - work individually or with four hands.
