The MAC of Lissone inaugurates the long-awaited and prestigious permanent collection with an exhibition that reflects its concept. In the authoritative cradle of design, an authoritative collection. After long waits, the MAC of Lissone has finally increased its artistic heritage with a collection dedicated exclusively to design. This choice became necessary and inevitable considering the reality of the territory, strongly linked to the wood-furniture supply chain; in the last century, Lissone was, not by chance, synonymous with the Capital of furniture. In virtue of an important but often underestimated history, the MAC has integrated its collections with objects related to the history of the town of Briantea, projecting itself into a broad and heterogeneous panorama, with a national and international scope. From the beginning of the 2000s, the museum collections have continued to document the evolution of visual arts, but it is only since 2007 that the MAC's programming has turned towards the world of design, establishing a biennial award for young designers. Despite the event being part of a research and development fabric belonging to the Lissonese tradition, it was only ten years later that it was possible to establish the first nucleus of the newborn collection, which quickly expanded. At present, the collection consists of about a hundred objects and over three hundred technical drawings, along with a collection of materials related to visual design. The desire to celebrate "the art of design", focusing on innovation and iconicity, finds its way into the museum halls with the exhibition "Looking at the moon, not the finger". The title, which paraphrases the famous Chinese saying "when the finger points at the moon, the fool looks at the finger", alludes to the need to carefully observe the exhibited objects in order to transcend their form and understand their design more deeply. With the same intent, the museum's collection has been redesigned/replanned, enriched by the Director of the MAC with objects that reflect the ingenuity of their authors and the expertise of some of the most renowned companies in the sector. Alongside famous design icons - essential in museum collections worldwide - projects, prototypes, and limited editions are featured around thematic groups. Masterpieces of craftsmanship excellence, such as the "Orsay Lectern" by Aulenti, the "Parola Amore" by Tovaglia, the "Windbreaker" by Livio and Piero Castiglioni, or the "Bowtie" by Botta, interact with modern computers by Bellini, the Tŷ Nant packaging by Lovegrove, and the Discovolante by Lissoni. Irony and originality characterize the "Stella" coat rack by the Mendini brothers, the "Aile" coffee table by De Marco and Fanciullacci, the hypnotic and perpetual clock by Zambelli, the vinyl dress by Cannavacciuolo, and the historic "Componibile" by Castelli Ferrieri revisited by Fabio Novembre. Among the curiosities, there are also a modular cross by Iacchetti and the disposable rosary by JoeVelluto, sunglasses by Duranti, and cardboard glasses by La Roche. Among the seats, the "Universale" by Colombo, "Monk" by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, "Plopp stool" by Zieta, "Rememberme" by Juretzek, "Seconda" by Botta, "Spaghetti" by Belotti, "Tuttitubi" by Damiani, the "Iron" bench by Bergne (in a special edition), and a prototype of a stool by Luraschi have been chosen. A section is dedicated to lighting, including lamps that have become true design icons, from the "Eclisse" by Magistretti to the "Passiflora" by Natalini and "Toraldo" by Francia, from the "Cuboluce" by Bettonica and Melocchi to the "Tolomeo" by De Lucchi and Fassina, up to the most recent "Elica" by Sironi. Dominating the kitchen corner are the kettles by Gehry and Graves, the coffee makers by Rossi and Sapper, the fish platter by Sambonet, and the set of "Monachine" by Duranti; while the screwable vase by Santachiara and the wheelbarrow by Faccin refer to the gardening area. Along with autographed drawings by Ambasz, Aulenti, Hejduk, and Ungers, the graphic works of Baruffi/De Santi, Confalonieri, Fronzoni + Gruppo MID, Lupi, Nizzoli, the complete series of "Inventario" - the editorial project by Finessi and Croatto awarded in 2014 with the Compasso d'Oro - and a selection of technical projects by Foresti-Volonterio, Pessina-Pica-Rascaroli, Salvati-Tresoldi are proposed. Of particular relevance for local history is the exhibition of some promotional posters from the historic Lissonese Weeks and an unpublished photocopy of the Palazzo del Mobile in Lissone designed by architects Faglia and Galmanini.
