Located in the Alfama district of Lisbon, at 42 Rua de Augusto Rosa, the Museu do Aljube – Resistance and Freedom is housed in the former political prison Aljube, in use from 1928 to 1965. Transformed into a museum and inaugurated on April 25, 2015, the place celebrates the testimony of those who fought against oppression during the Portuguese dictatorship.
The Museu do Aljube offers an engaging and reflective journey through the memory of the dictatorship in Portugal, a place of powerful testimonies that celebrates freedom, resistance, and civic engagement: ideal for schools, scholars, aware citizens, and curious travelers.
