The Musée des Beaux-Arts (or Musée de l'Évêche) is a museum in Limoges which houses an artistic and archaeological collection linked to the history and culture of Limoges. It is located in the ancient episcopal palace of the eighteenth century. The archaeological collections come from the finds from the Gallo-Roman site of Augustoritum, and from the findings that took place in the Upper Seine area. Numerous models illustrate the urban evolution, from the Gallo-Roman period, to the Merovingian period to the fully medieval one. However, collections of Egyptian antiquities are also preserved, coming from donations received by the museum. The museum also houses one of the largest collections of enamelled works in the world, from the Middle Ages to the present day. The collection of paintings contains numerous works by regional artists, but also several works by internationally renowned artists, such as Matisse and Léger.
