Lotherton Hall is a stately country house near Aberford in West Yorkshire, England. It is part of the Leeds Museums & Galleries group. The house initially owned by Thomas Maude, was visited by the Gascoigne family and became their main residence. Lotherton Hall was donated to the city of Leeds in 1968 by Sir Alvary Gascoigne and his wife, the last heir of the Gascoigne family. It was opened to the public by its new owners on August 6, 1969. The building became a museum in 1968 and houses collections of fine and decorative arts. The estate on the outside is home to a large collection of endangered bird species and a herd of deer. In front of the bird garden there is a large expanse of lawns. An additional field is often used to host various types of shows. Lotherton Hall contains around 3,000 objects from five different collections. The Gascoigne family donated part of the objects exhibited here between 1955 and 1979: they count include paintings, sculptures, furniture, silver, jewelery, porcelain, prints, drawings and fabrics. The Costume Collection, on the other hand, is made up of historical and modern clothes and accessories. Much of the oriental pottery and porcelain collection was donated by Frank Savery in 1966. The modern handicraft collection includes pottery, furniture, jewelery and metalwork by prominent British artists. The Cooper Collection, on loan from a private owner, includes Victorian and early 20th century furniture and pottery.
