From 16 March to 7 April 2024 , the Viscontea Tower will host the photographic exhibition " On the street: work where you pass " by Gian Maria Zapelli, curated by Rete Radié Resch.

Forty photographs, taken in twenty cities around the world, which tell where in the street there is an economy of the meager income enough to survive, where the sidewalk becomes an existential space. In the most marginal and peripheral human experiences there is a job that only needs a sidewalk, for one's own vegetable stall or for a cart to cook food. Not a job from which to expect gratification, social or professional emancipation, but at the service of survival. It is an occupation where one passes by, the theater of a humanity that does not give up and relies on the little of a worn-out pot or a freshly caught fish.

Gian Maria Zapelli collected his shots in the peripheral streets of cities around the world, in the most popular neighbourhoods, describing a less visible humanity, which tenaciously faces the ordinary toil of daily work on the street. In his images he does not look for a composition that seduces with the perfection of the light and its editing, but he looks for a point of view, a perspective from which to observe the world. The shot chosen is never of the face in the foreground, because the identity, its history, its trace is defined and told by the space in which one is immersed. The scene also contains the worn utensils, the peeling walls against which one is leaning, the corroded tables on which the goods are spread out every day. It is a photograph that presents itself in empathetic participation with the gathered humanity, approaching women and men who resist and persevere by relying on the boiling of used oil or the sale of products with a modest profit. A life that possesses, due to its indomitable repetition of being on the sidewalk, an exciting luminosity.
