The event aims to be an opportunity for a reflection on the value of the mountain and its eco-system through the presentation of a large collection of works by the painter Paolo Punzo (Bergamo 1906 - 1979), defined as the “painter of the mountain” . The exhibition brings together over 70 paintings from private and banking collections by this artist, who grew up in the CAI, who knew how to combine his passion for the mountains with that for painting and was the author of a large production of works on canvas or panel depicting the most important peaks of the Lombardy Alps, often painted with the “en plein air” technique.

The exhibition, which is one of the largest dedicated to this artist , is completed with the presence of over 30 sculptures in bronze and wood , also from a private collection, depicting the animals that make up the Alpine fauna and contribute to constitute the eco-system of our mountains. These are sculptures ranging from the late eighteenth century to the early twentieth century and well document the genre of animal rights sculpture that had its most important interpreters in Italy and France.

Finally, the exhibition event aims to offer a starting point for reflection on the theme of the effects of "climate change" in the Alps : through a comparison between the works of Paolo Punzo from the first half of the last century and the splendid images of the same glimpses portrayed in the photographs taken today by Alberto Locatelli it is in fact possible to grasp the consequences of climatic changes in the rising of the snow line and in the melting of the glaciers, which seriously jeopardize the equilibrium of the Alpine eco-system.
